… I have only just woken up. I think it must be a combination of the drugs and the excitement of going away. Colin has popped out to deliver our Village Voice news so I may just lie in for a bit longer yet.
Our naughty dog woke us to go out in the middle of the night and decided whilst doing so, that he would take himself off for a walk through the fields and then roll in fox poo. If you have ever smelt fox poo you will know it is not something you can leave and deal with in the morning, so Colin had to give him a bath whist still half asleep. I think it was Frodo’s way of telling us to take him with us on our next weekend away, not that he didn’t have a god holiday himself with Colin ‘s parents.
Frodo is a rescue Lurcher. Lurcher’s are a cross between a sighthound and any other breed, but usually a terrier. Frodo is a whippet crossed with a Bedlington terrier so he is quite small. Our last dog, the very handsome Danny Bone, was mostly greyhound. If you are ever thinking about getting a dog I can thoroughly recommend a Lurcher. They are often known as the sofa dog as most of the day they just want to lounge about on your sofa. Danny and Frodo were both from Lurcherlink who rescue Lurchers and then act as a sort of dating agency matching up the right dog to the right family. We have been foster parents for dogs from Lurcherlink and Southern Lurcher Rescue. Fostering dogs can be very rewarding but it can be very tempting to keep hold of the dogs as you just can’t help falling in love with them all. It is a good idea to get a dog that has previously been fostered as you can find out a lot more about their temperament from their foster parents. So please do consider homing a rescue dog if you are thinking about getting a dog at all. I have attached a link to both of the rescue centres below. They will also continue to provide you with lots of ongoing support and advice and the opportunity to chat online and meet up for walks with other Lurcher owners.
And if you want a bit of a tear jerker here is a link to a short film made in memory of the wonderful and never forgotten Danny Bone
Well from my bed it looks like the sun is shining so I must get up even if it is just to move down to the conservatory to enjoy the view.
Tomorrow I will find out the next steps in my myeloma journey.
Have a good Monday.
